Ernst Consulting was started in January of 2008 as way help commercialize some of Jason Ernst's ideas. It has now evolved to provide cost-effective IT consulting services on a contract basis. This can be especially helpful for small to medium sized businesses where it may not be practical to hire full-time IT staff. More recently, we have begun partnering with colleagues in order to provide a wider variety of services including graphic design and computer / software engineering

Jason B. Ernst
Ernst Consulting prides itself in its unique combination of ties to academia, business and community. This allows us to stay up to date on the latest trends in technology while still remaining competitive and helpful to the greater community we are a part of.
Jason Ernst is an independent consultant who specializes in computer related technology. Prior to forming the company, Jason studied at Wilfrid Laurier University, earning an Honours B.Sc. in Computer Science with a minor in Physics. More recently, Jason completed a M.Sc. in Applied Computing from the University of Guelph. Since the fall of 2009, Jason will has been working towards completing a Ph.D. in Applied Computing at the University of Guelph. If you are interested in publications, see Jason's academic website.
While studying and working, Jason has managed to gain priceless experience working in various programming languages, developing and maintaining websites, managing projects and working in teams. Jason is also an excellent public speaker and has given presentations for international conference delegates, industry and boardroom members of large international companies. In 2009 Jason helped found the ACM Student Chapter at the University of Guelph and continues to volunteer with this group as the chair. The duties involved in this role include planning and running events such as programming contests, speaker series with professors, student and industy, and tours with local technology companies.
Tom J. Hummel
Tom Hummel is a systems and computer engineer specializing in both hardware/software co-design and high reliability systems. Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Systems and Computing from the University of Guelph, and is currently working towards a Masters of Applied Science in the same discipline. Tom has demonstrated team work, design, and presentation skills, through his experiences both in the academic and practical engineering fields. Working alongside team members and regional municipalities, Tom has gained experience in designing and implementing high-reliability, distributed control systems (SCADA) for both the water/waste water and waste management applications. Additionally, Tom is an active participant in automotive racing and utilizes his design skills to deploy in vehicle data acquisition systems in order for teams to leverage their practice time. Tom's masters work focuses on an integrated mechatronic valve control solution for future automotive applications, that involves high durability mechanical of computing components. Tom believes that any successful project requires thourough, detailed design grounded in sound principles.
Business and Community Partnerships
Ernst Consulting values both business and community ties very much. We are always willing to work with volunteer and non-profit organizations in order to bring extra value to their service through the use of technology. Ernst Consulting also works with other area business to collaborate on larger projects, trade ideas and refer services in order to better serve the client.
Wilfrid Laurier University - School of Business and Economics - Supply Chain Management Group
Ernst Consulting, in collaboration with Carlos Saavedra, will be designing and implementing a faculty / department website for the School of Business and Economics Supply Chain Management group at Wilfrid Laurier University. The website will allow faculty to share publications, resources and links in an easy to use content management system which will be custom tailored for their use.
Civics Education Network:
Our company has volunteered to design and implement a resource management system integrated into an existing Wordpress blog style site. The system allows users to upload content, search, browse and download as well as a custom wordpress plugin tool. The files uploaded by the users are approved by an adminstrator. The key technologies behind the system are AJAX, PHP, MySQL and Javascript.
Saav Media:
Ernst Consulting has a working relationship with Saav Media as consultant for technological issues when the need arises. We have provided Saav Media with expertise on various small tasks such as form validation scripts, php programming, dns issues and hosting advice. We also occasionally colloborate on larger projects with Saav Media providing web site designs and Ernst Consulting contributing programming aspects of the solution.
CxTec:
Ernst Consulting provided an online advertising solution via Jason's Computer Science Blog for CxTec. CxTec is a global provider of computer networking and technology equipment based in Syracuse, NY.

Guelph ACM Student Chapter
Jason was a founding member of the ACM Student group and since has served as the chair of the group. Responsibilities in this role include planning and co-ordinating events such as programming contests, speaker series, and company tours, attracting and recruiting students, and delegating tasks to various group members in other roles.
PerWin Research Group at the University of Guelph
Jason volunteered to develop and maintain a simple seminar scheduling page for the pervasive computing and wireless network research group at the University of Guelph. The page is updated on a regular basis with the schedule of researchers from group and various invited faculty. The site makes use of Javascript and XHTML.
Jason's Computer Science Blog
This blog started as a way to document some of the graduate experience Jason had during his M.Sc. degree at Guelph. It has now turned into a source of various Computer Science articles, has occassional guest bloggers, advertising and a good following of readers. This site uses Wordpress, PHP, Javascript, CSS, XML and XHTML. The theme template was created by Jason Ernst as well as several specialized plugins that add to the functionality of the site.

Ernst Consulting Website
The website for this company was designed inhouse and features several technologies. The news sections are dynamically driven using PHP and MySQL. Form validation is done using Javascript. The theme and layout uses CSS and XHTML. The sitemap uses XML and XSL stylesheets.
